Sen. Graham and Gun Control

SC Senator Lindsey Graham let it be known today that he owns an AR-15 assault rifle just like the one used to kill 20 kids in Newtown and that he passed the background check to obtain it.  I must say this is not reassuring news.

I guess this shows that background checks don’t do any good.  If nutcase Senator Graham passed and now happily carries an assault rifle we might as well give up on any kind of restrictions on weapons and issue rocket launchers to everyone.  Mr. Graham also called on fellow lawmakers to resist any ban on high-capacity magazines, like the ones used in Newtown, because “there could be a situation where a mother runs out of bullets because of something we do here.” Can’t say I ever once worried about my mom running out of ammo.

The Pathetic Mr. McCain

Good grief  When is the angry old man of the Senate, John McCain, going to pack it in?  He’s still fuming about the nomination of Chuck Hagel for Secretary of Defense.

“I do not believe that Chuck Hagel, who is a friend of mine, is qualified to be secretary of defense,” Mr. McCain said on Sunday’s CNN State of the Union program.

Not qualified. This from the guy who thought Sarah Palin was a perfect candidate for vice-president of the United States. It turns out, of course, she can’t even hold down a gig  as a Fox News commentator.

Please, Senator McCain, quite embarrassing yourself: retire now.

Detroit Worker Bonuses Approach Records

That’s the headline for a Bloomberg.com article today.  Detroit autoworkers are going to share $750 million in bonus payouts.  I know that’s not much if you’re a CEO of a U.S. bank or some other Wall Street big wig.  But for working folks its real money for real work. Keep in mind, if the Republicans and Mitt Romney had had their way, these companies would be out of business and the employees would be receiving unemployment checks instead of pay checks.
