The NRA Has Done So Much For America

They must adore these numbers:

Where are all those good guys with guns?

American Gun Lunacy

I can’t wait for the NRA to come out and propose that the Connecticut massacre could have been prevented if those kindergarteners had just been armed.  The nation must do something to control our self-imposed epidemic of gun-enabled homicide.  Nick Kristoff gets it right in his NY Times opinion piece: “Do We Have the Courage to Stop This?”  More Americans have perished from gunshots in the past six months than have in died in combat and from terrorist attacks in the last twenty-five years.  And yet the gun lobby‘s answer is always “more guns.”  It’s past time to end that strangle hold on weapons’ policy and institute sane measures to control the kinds of guns that can be in civilian hands and limit the type and quantity of ammunition that can be sold to the public. Kristoff and others propose these and other sensible steps that would not prevent common folks from having weapons for personal protection, hunting and recreation while still saving thousands of lives.
